Target market= A specific group of consumers/audience where a company aims it services/product

 

Marketing=the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising

Marketing can be seen as  the key objective in the music industry. Marketing efforts is to develop satisfying relationships with customers that benefit both the customer and the Label. These efforts lead marketing to serve an important role within most record labels and within society.

 

Marketing is a vital business function that is necessary in nearly all industries and can function as operating  for-profit or as a not-for-profit. For the for-profit organization, marketing is responsible for the majority of tasks that bring popularity and profits to an organization. For the not-for-profit organization though marketing is responsible for attracting and driving customers to be a part of it, needed to support the not-for-profit’s mission, EG- raising donations or supporting an important cause. For both types of organizations, it is very unlikely that they can survive without a strong marketing backing.

Marketing is also the business area that interacts and is in contact most frequently with the public and because of this, how knowledgable the public is of the organization/company, about an organization is determined by their interactions with marketers. EG- The public may think a company is  creative and bankable based on its advertising message and skills alone

MY SPECIFIC MAIN TARGET AUDIENCE

 

My main target audience would be teenagers and young adults. An alternative grunge teenage audience. Officially my target audience is the 'indie audience' and the 'alternative audience' who is a grunge gothic audience. Although automatically an indie audience would also enjoy the music video, as the song appeals to them and fits into their genre of music and preferred music taste, therefore my two main target audiences will be the grunge alternative teenage target audience, but also the indie teenage audience because of my choice of song, also because of the nature of how the music video has been shot and filmed and the low budget homely humble connatations and presentation of the video. The target audience that I will be focusing on is the D social grade and the 'self actualisers' group. My official age category being 15-19 year olds (more directed towards teenage girls) seeming as the main character and protagonist is a teenager herself, meaning the target audience, teenagers, are able to relate to her age and problems and her confused mind and wreckless tendencies in order to escape briefly from her reality.

 

Also constant themes of chemical abuse whether it being alcohol or drugs, and weak casual friendships. There does not appear to be anything stable about the artists world in the music video. This aspect of the music video clearly encourages our target audience of teenagers, to relate to her friendship issues and bonds, as seen in the music video her friends are unaware of her true and hidden personality and problems but also appear to be an occasional support network and comfort for Melody. To be even more specific I think my target audience is teenage girls, because of the fact Melody the anti hero and main character is a teenage girl who expresses issues with herself and her confidence, also her feelings of loneliness, her mental state and her focus on her personal appearance and using dark clothes/ fashions and dark makeup, to blanket and hide her true fragile identity and lost sense of character and certainty. Shown clearly throughout the video and how she acts and is impulsive. Although this doesn’t mean I’m suggesting my only target audience is teenagers or teenage girls. My music video Youth is suited to all audiences, who enjoy watching and also doing, particular things included in the video and relate to behaviour displayed in the video by all characters, and can relate to at least a few things shown in the video like the traumatic event that happened to her. Also adults who come across my music video, who may be able to remember and relate to the themes and events that Melody shows and is part of throughout the music video. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SOCIAL MEDIA

 

​Social Media is an extremely important and influencial part of all generations, as it provides information whether is being of world news or casual subjects like a persons favourite celebrity TV show website etc. Social media also allows people to connect to other people who may even be on the other side of the world. Social media apps/ websites include Facebook,Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr etc. I can use social media apps and pages to promote my artist and the song and music video

 

Target audience

Social media is constantly used by celebrities to promote their star image, and also share their private and personal experiences and selfies through pictures to keep their fans updated and advertise their new products and news. Social media can also be used to display many images and related images/links that is related to whatever the individual types in. For example for my music videos genre: Indie pop/ alternative there are thousands of images that come up when typing in the hashtag on instagram and that is only from one of the several social media apps/sites

An audience member who I would be targetting for my music video

Emily is a 17 year old girl. Who considers herself to be an independent rebellious girl, who enjoys the darker and deeper more poetic side of life. She is a big fan of Indie pop because it sucessfully portrays what she believes and how she feels. Emily has a fashion style that is heavily influenced by 'alternative styles' she loves dark colours especially black, obvious and chunky bold jewellery, mostly necklasses and rings with gems and stones/charms on them. She owns a lot of jewellery which features ying/yang flowers and the moon symbol. Her fashion considering clothes is overlayers and thrift shop styles, but can also vary with ripped/worn in clothing, and ripped/frayed clothing. She also likes to wear leather and denim and chunky heavy boots. Emily enjoys wearing dark black eyeliner and occasionally eyeshadow, she also wears blusher occasionally and neutral/pink lipstick/gloss. Her fashion and image is strongly influenced by social websites and social media like tumblr and instagram. Also her fashion can be considered inspired by her favourite TV shows- Eg- skins. Emily has a similiar group of friends who are inspired by the same social media sites and TV shows. Emily and her friends can be thought as wild/rebellious. They choose to smoke and wrecklessly take drugs and drink at any rave/party/social gathering they were to go to. Education wise Emily has a very carefree and laid back attitude about school, and only puts in the effort when she feels she has to. She is viewed as a person who doesn't reveal a lot about herself, she adopts a presence/personna of mystery. Emily is quiet and unsociable but is also very observant and intelligent by knowing more about people then what they realize about themselves.
