Music Company: Sony

The Label I have chosen to research and discuss distribution for is 'Sony'. 

Explaining Distribution, it is how albums get into the shops. Distribution companies sign deals with many record labels, that gives them the conformation and official right to sell the labels products to record stores that are connected with that distributor. The distributor takes a fraction of money from each album sold and then gives the label what remains of the money. 

Sony's history

In 1887: Columbia was created which is still the oldest label in the history of the recording industry. From that point, Sony Music evolved and developed growing to the best in the business to create a world class record label and leader of the industry. In the UK, labels like Columbia, Epic, RCA, Commercial Group, RED, Relentless and Black Butter all make up the Sony Music company. Sony renamed the record company Sony Music Entertainment on January 1, 1991, following the terms set under the 1988 buyout. Epic Associated, Also on January 1, 1991, to replace the CBS label, Sony reintroduced the Columbia label globally, which it previously only had in the US and Canada. March 2010: Sony Corp partnered with The Michael Jackson Company with a contract of more than $250 million, the largest deal in recorded music history. August 8, 2011: the Sony music distribution centre in London, was destroyed in an arson attack during the 2011 England riots. In 2015, Sony fully acquired its independent distributor The Orchard, as well as the metal label Century Media Records.

Sony Music Entertainment is a global recorded music company with a current collection of varied artists with varied popularity. It owns premier record labels representing music from many types of genre, including Black Butter Records, Bystorm Entertainment, Descendant Records, Epic Records, Essential Records, Essential Worship, Flying Buddha, Masterworks, Masterworks Broadway, OKeh, Polo Grounds, Portrait, RCA Inspiration, RCA Nashville, RCA Records, Relentless Records, Reunion Records, Sony Classical, Sony Music Latin, Star Time International and many more. (Sony Music Entertainment is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America.) The company also represents/ has presented artists such as Beyonce, Foo Fighters, One Direction, Britney Spears, Usher, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Meghan Trainor, Mark Ronson, Miley Cyrus, Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, Rita Ora, George Ezra, Olly Murs, Paloma Faith, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash,Dolly Parton, AC/DC and The Clash.
