The final Digipack
The final album cover
The back cover of the album
The album cover first draft

This is the first attempt I had at making my album cover. I chose to place the title of the album in the top right corner of the image, and the name of my artist below the artists head and in the bottom left corner of the image. To begin with I was happy with how the text on the image was layed out, and how it contrasted with the brighter colours of brown and blue. However once reviewing the cover as a whole, i decided that it would be an overall better set out album cover if it wasnt too crowded with text, which would distract the audience from paying attention to the album's image, and the album's title was repositioned where the audience would be able to notice the title clearer and quicker.
This is my final draft of my album cover. My final decision was only including the album title on the album cover, this is because it draws more attention to the main theme, and characteristic of all songs on this album and also the main characteristic that melody bay as a character posseses. I also repositioned the album title to the bottom left corner of the album, so that it is clearer to the audience where the title is and makes the title being there more obvious. I decided to keep the font of the title suttle and uncomplicated and simple , displaying themes similiar to the appearance of the melody bay character herself on this album cover . Not needing an overdramatic and overwhelming font and colour.

In our media lesson we were asked to pick an album cover from an artists of our choice. We were then asked to create a brand new album cover for that artist, and use themes from their album covers to recreate our own and to become inspired by themes in their album covers. Once we decided on the artist we wanted to make an album cover for, The Weeknd, we analysed current album covers that he had and included these themes that he had in his covers. We chose a google image of an attractive model looking girl smoking and added a stencil grainy layer onto the image. We chose this central image for the cover, because The Weeknd includes many gorgeous and displays of getting high and smoking in his music videos and included in his songs. We also used the block of colours below 'The Weeknd's' name because this seems to be included in most of his album covers. We used themes of black and white for this album cover, because black and white is also very common in his album covers. We used the created title of the album 'dead to me' ,because this title and what is associated with it sounds similiar to a song or lyric the weeknd would have in one of his songs. This impressive and believable album cover was made through Adobe Photoshop.
This is my final album cover. I chose to change it because I believed that it looked more proffesional and ambigious, it also reflects the inner conflict and complexity that can be visually expressed and displayed through the busy and overwhelming city, used to make up the outline and filling of the artist. Also using I finally chose to change the album cover to its final product (positioned above) because of the more proffesional style this album cover has. The album cover now looks significantly more like a real album cover, and also builds and creates more of an interest and sense of an alternative style, and urban constructed theme to the artist by the album cover being designed in this way. Also outlines an outlook and impression of her music style by the way I have chosen to edit and complete the final album cover .

Behind the scenes of shooting for the Digipack

Before shooting for the Digipack=
I already had an idea of the approach and style that the artist would adopt before taking the pictures during the photoshoot. I planned that the artist would be represented as an alternative grung unique teenager who appears to be very independent and individual. I planned that this would be obvious through what she wears and the types of shots I would take of her character. EG- Close ups, sideshots and longshots where she's not facing the camera.
Also before taking the pictures I thought that the best location to take the pictures would be in a eerie and decomposing forest. I thought this because the forest may suggest to my target audience she is comforted here and visits here. The forest could represent her and how she feels inside of her head and her personality. Quiet empty and decomposing but still has aspects of beauty and history. A forest is also a location where you are able to experiment with different elements of the forest like the trees and leaves and logs. I also thought the general colour scheme and feelings associated with the forest matches the artist's look and grunge dark look.
I thought that when brainstorming the types of shots and the facial expressions the artist should show that she should be almost neutral in facial expression. Not too happy but not too sad. The pictures in the digipack where you can see her face show her with a vague hint of a smile or a neutral facial expression. This was done to suggest that she has practised this and constantly faked a facade of a smile, presented in the digipack's album cover.
During shots: While shooting it was crucial that the artist's personality and the facial expressions her personna tends to show was obvious through the artist expressions and poses. All shots taken were still shots except for the shot where she's smoking.
For all of the images when producing the final products shown here I edited them by adjusting the contrast, brightness and sharpening setting. As you can see I decided to produce the final pictures with the highest quality and adjusted 3 of the pictures to a black and white filter. Once changing the original pictures settings and colours, specifically making them darker, shadowed and clearer. I added common conventions from real Digipacks such as song lyrics from the song I chose for my music video, social media thumbnails, the albums title, the barcode, the artist's website, and the track list.
I used photoshop to edit these pictures and wanted to use the same software. To encourage a stable flow and continuity throughout all of the Digipack's pictures and overall as a media text.
I attempted to merge features from other Digipacks, like all the pictures within the digipak featuring the artist and her grunge alternative image. The audience immediatly identify the album as a personal idea and representation of the artist and firmly conforms to the brand and alternative genre, with a hint of the indie genre, it also adds an artistic and unique feeling to the final product.
