The alternative grunge target audience

My target audience is a mix of 'grunge alternative category' and the indie audiences but focused mostly on the alternative grunge category, because of the music video's content and the artist herself. They tend to be darker, daring and reckless. They usually listen to a niche and a particular style of music. They can also be recognised as more gothic and emotional then the indie genre. Although they are a minority both of these genres, Indie and grunge are somewhat alike and agree with eachother in a sense that they agree with eachother,as they both go against and avoid mainstream fashion and stereotypes. They are also both recognised as niche audiences and atypical groups, and are a lot less common then a mainstream group who follow the mass media and styles. The genre and audience of the song i've selected which is an indie song and attracts an indie audience, contrasts the target audience I have selected and what themes and subjects I have included in the music video and how I have presented the artist. Although the lyrics do still directly link to the events and themes in the music video.

What is grunge?

a style or fashion derived from a movement in rock music: in fashion characterized by unkempt clothing and in music by aggressive, nihilistic songs.

A fan of grunge who is displaying a key look and accessories to achieve the alternative and darker look

The key word interesting relating to my target audience is good,because this means that the audience would be drawn to the music video, as the music video is also complex and 'interesting'

My target audience being described as unique means that I am assured that they will again be drawn to, and compelled to watch the music video, because of the fact it is an alternative and unique style and various themes with a subtle unique twist. Including many layers of messages and suggestions to it-A unique and frayed storyline that is unique

My target audience are also described as 'gothic' where the music video would appeal to them, because it is clear to see that the general theme of the video is a dark black gothic and deathly

''Depressing' and 'angst' are more words that are used to portray this niche target audience,and again my music video would appeal to and engage my target audience through the depressing storyline and general 'deep' and 'sensitive' subjects explored and developed, also the nature and complexity and angst that my artist brings to the surface and exposes to my focused audience

The music video clearly and bodly conveys to and fits into the alternative and grunge subgroup, and darker aspects and development of a deep and emotional storyline threaded with depressing and emotional themes, to match the punky agressive and rebellious style and general mise en scene content of the music video.

Mise en scene and token objects used to enhance the characters thrill seeking and adhrenalin seeking personality- EG- A motorbike, drugs, alcohol, smoking

Mise en scene- Her costumes and accessories- Chokers, leather jackets, heavy boots, tight and revealing dresses for parties, heavy and baggy unbranded clothing and scribbled rough drawing on her hands conforming to the key grimey sullen group of the alternative grunge niche group

Mise en scene- Using smokey and mysterious bold gothic based makeup shown in extreme close up shots- Constantly highlighting her gothic tendencies and piercing green eyes

Mise en scene- Her facial expressions either presenting upset or trauma or suttle looks and not revealing an obvious amount of emotion- Another key convention of a complex rebellious group of the alternative

The artist herself generally and genuinely accords to the themes of the dark grunge genre and community, as she is unique and has a key and daring hobo chique look representing herself as having an 'i dont care' attitude, when ironically her character is extremely lost and overemotional like most people of this subgroup are

Inspiration for the music video content artist and shot types- Stay high (includes the grunge alternative genre)

I took inspiration of her carefree and rebellious attitude as she stumbles around the club intoxicated and free

The artist is shown heavily drinking and taking shots which is also a common theme and action my artist presents in my music video

In this music video the artist presented as being hungover and has an underlying theme of occasional torment and emotion when she is drunk or high- The same occurs in my music video

The artist here clearly has an unkept and grungy style, with a hint of glamour and uniqueness with her tattoos and smokey darker makeup. Her as a style icon and how she looks in the video was also taken as inspiration

The extreme close up shots of her eyes and face were also an inspiration for my music video, as it shows the boldness, innocence and vunerability in her eyes and my artist's eyes as I repliated it

The artist is also shown to be laughing and being caught in the moment of adventure and being high and drunk- also shown in my music video where my artist reacts to the alcohol and drugs

In this shot the artist is alone and left with her overwhelming emotions and turmoil- this is shown with my artist where she is alone and unable to distract herself as she is reminded of what she is avoiding

I also included a graffiti wall in my music video based off this colourful and urban wall in this music video

These shots of the artist watching herself or in the mirror when sober and analysing herself were common in this music video- I also chose to use many mid shots of her analysing herself and personal close up shots of my artist, filming her face and expressions from the front
